Sealants are a protective coating placed over the biting surface of permanent molars. The first permanent molars generally erupt through the gum tissue around age 6, then the second molars around the age of 12. Sealants are very helpful in preventing cavities that can start in the deep grooves of the biting surface of the teeth. Sealants are highly recommended for cavity-prone children. Sealants are easy to place, the appointment is quick, and the child does not need to be numb for the procedure. If your child would benefit from having sealants placed, please call Southmoor Dental Group for an appointment.
